A Man's Character and a Businesses Character

“A man's character is like his house. If he tears boards off his house and burns them to keep himself warm and comfortable, his house soon becomes a ruin. If he tells lies to be able to do the things he shouldn't do but wants to, his character will soon become a ruin. A man with a ruined character is a shame on the face of the earth.”
― Ralph Moody, Father and I Were Ranchers

All too often business are run without character too. I am not saying that every mistake should count against a business, sometimes business makes poor choices that are the best choices they can make with the information they have at that time. But sometimes business deliberately short-change their staff, misrepresent the product, engage in deliberate price gouging. These things can ruin a business's character. This doesn't mean that the business will fail though they may, but that they are a shame on the face of the earth. While businesses should make decisions with profit in mind, it can not be the sole motivating factor; businesses do need to make decisions with what is right in view as well. I believe it is better to have one's business fail for doing the right things then it is to succeed by doing the wrong thing.
